Project Overview
Since the collapse of Saddam Hussein’s regime in March 2003, thousands of tons of Iraqi ammunition have been captured. The question remained, how to safely destroy or store all of the small arms, large conventional bombs, and everything in between.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers turned to Parsons to get this critical safety program off the ground in short order. Parsons' assignment of determing whether the captured munitions are serviceable or not, destroying selected munitions, and storing the remainder in secure facilities, allows U.S. military personnel to stay mission-focused.
In addition to providing unexploded ordnance detection and removal services, Parsons established seven camps with full life-support capabilities. Parsons performed the majority of the work under extremely dangerous conditions. Unable to rely on support from U.S. or coalition military forces, they provided their own security. Throughout these challenges, Parsons proved its ability to manage risk with innovative and creative solutions.
